Mars the red planet
The astrological Mars has much to do with the natural flow of energy, drive, will, ambition, and passion. Conversely, when Mars is expressed negatively, it can be judgemental, aggressive and a bully.
Mars Retrograde is a rare event in the astrological calendar. Unlike the other planets in the sky, it only goes retrograde once every 26 months.
During Mars retrograde, it is a good time to be patient and alert and to revisit our personal power and control.
This workshop will use the upcoming Mars retrograde to explore these martian energies through the myths of gods and goddess – Isis, Athean and Thor
Join Christina Becker (Jungian Analyst) and Sharlene Friedman (Art Therapist) for a 9-week journey in the 2024-2025 Mars Retrograde and the themes of the Warrior Goddesses.
This interactive workshop combines video lectures, which can be viewed offline, and live classes on Zoom.
Video lectures will highlight the aspects of Mars Retrograde and themes of the Warrior Goddesses that apply to our journeys.
Weekly live Zoom calls will be a time for dreaming, facilitating the creative process, sharing, and discussion.

Your Guides
Christina Becker
Christina completed her training at the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich Switzerland; the only institute in the world that was founded but C.G. Jung. In addition to her Jungian training, she studied astrology at the Faculty of Astrological Studies in London, England, and with Liz Greene through the Astrodeinst seminars in Zurich.
She is the author of “The Heart of the Matter: Individuation as an Ethical Process” which was published in 2014, and is actively working on a second book that explored the connection between mysticism and psychoanalysis.
Christina is publishing her second book, a part memoir and part self-help book. “Soul-Making: A Journey of Resilience and Spiritual Rediscovery” is expected to be out in early 2025.
She has been in private practice since 2000, and has lectured widely. She is an engaging and lively workshop leader.
Sharlene Friedman
Sharlene has been in independent practice since 1989 as a Registered Canadian Art Therapist. She was born in South Africa and came to Canada to study Art Therapy.
In South Africa, she was part of the Rape Crisis Centre called POWA (People Opposing Woman Abuse) and was responsible for group training and crisis counselling.
In conjunction with a private practice, where she focuses on work with individuals, couples and supervision, Sharlene is on faculty with the Toronto Art Therapy Institute as the Group Art Therapist. She has also worked with numerous agencies including women’s shelters, addiction treatment programs, The Rape Crisis Centre of Peel Dufferin County, the Peel Collaborative and the Barbara Schlifer Clinic in Toronto, where her work focused on working with trauma, recovery and personal growth.
She is the co-author of the manual, Weaving Our Voices: An open group for women who have survived Childhood Sexual Abuse and trauma A Group Leaders Manual and was responsible for training agencies in Peel, Guelph and Toronto in this model. Sharlene also practices and teaches self-help Jin Shin Jyutsu an art of harmony, body mind and spirit.

Class Schedule
The journey through Mars Retrograde and the myths take place over 9 (Nine) weekly classes starting Sunday, November 24, 2024, at 1 pm Eastern. (Find out what time this is in your time zone)
(Note: there will be no class on December 22nd, December 29th, or January 5th)
Each 2.5-hour session will combine Dreamwork, time for creative work and sharing with others in the community. Participants will be find resonance in their lives of Martian energies moving toward insight, wisdom, and transformation.
We gain deeper insight into our unconscious narratives through our relationship to the images, revealed through journalling, creativity, and dreams.
Sessions will be held on ZOOM. Only the offline lectures will be recorded.

Introduction – Setting the Stage for Mars Retrograde Journey.

Week 2 – Mars Station Retrograde
Mars Stations on December 6, 2024. During this class we will the stage for Mars’ journey over the next 2 months by exploring the lessons that Mars has to teach us about drive, ambition, and aggressive energy, how this expresses itself in people, and the functions of the negative and positive active energies in the psyche.

Week 3 – Athena
During each class, we will explore symbolically and in the creative process, the messages related to the Goddess, as she expresses Martian energies.

Midway through the Mars Retrograde cycle, the Sun shines a light on Mars in the astrological sky, releasing what has been gestating and cooking in the unconscious.

As Mars Stations Direct, Mars station direct on February 23, 2025, the active energy that has been stalled or stuck begins to move. We work with the voice of truth as Mars slows down to a crawl in anticipation of its move forward. The energy arisies towards a more authentic desire and empowerment.
